I'm crazy and I didn't ask you anything

My wife asked me to comment on the recent censorship of the great children's author Roald Dahl.

Why did she ask me this, because I am mentally ill, I am what they used to call crazy. Now our wokes and politico-correct give me other names, of course they never ask my opinion, they know better than I do what is acceptable to me or not.

But here is the thing, I never asked to censor the word crazy in Dalh's work, I don't care if they say she became crazy with rage, if some hyper sensitive people found it upsetting, well the world is anyway upsetting and it is not by erasing all the upsetting aspects that we learn to live in it.

On the other hand I have lived and I live with mental illness, really and to have to wait months when I need to consult that I find it definitely more "annoying".

The likes on social media posts won't help me, of course it's well intentioned, but you see it doesn't go beyond that, the intention, when you need help your entourage disappears, only a few good friends remain. Of course everyone supports you, but from far away.

And if you do something worthy of the asylum on a whim because of lack of care and other help, you will soon find yourself either in prison, or at home within four walls, or at worst on the street as a sparrow. It is not our friends woke and our politico-correct people who will correct the shooting, they will support you from afar and will persecute people who are for nothing in our condition, such as these authors of book which, great misfortune, uses the word "mad".

We are crazy, mentally ill and other terms and why should I be ashamed to read this, why should I waste my time persecuting people who have nothing to do with it? No point.

And don't even get me started on social workers, counselors and other poorly trained people, most of them are as useful as a rope around your neck when you're feeling bad with ready-made, useless phrases like take a walk, walk around, it'll go away, I get it, hollow phrases said by people with equally hollow and mechanical brains.

You want to accept me, well stop treating me as a victim, give me a hand if you can, stop doing the hypocritical fake sympathy I detect it at 100 km, stop censoring people who have nothing to do with our situation.

And run away from the wokes who use us without our permission, who treat us like 7 year olds and who want to keep us as victims for life because it suits their political agenda to use us and not help us.

The Tao of Pooh

The Tao of Pooh is a nice little book featuring a Winnie the Pooh through which the author makes us discover some notions of Taoism.

The author does not pretend to cover the whole of Taoism but in a playful way he teaches us some notions and makes us want to discover more.

Hoff uses many of Milne's characters to symbolize ideas that differ from or emphasize Taoist principles.

This is a good book for children and adults.

I sincerely invite you to discover it by borrowing it from your local library or by purchasing it.

Apple Pie Recipe

A recipe I take when the taste of a pie takes me, the picture on the right is what it looks like at home.

Crust

2 cups (500 mL) all-purpose flour
¾ tsp (4 mL) salt
1 cup (250 mL) vegetable shortening
1 egg
2 tbsp (30 mL) cold water
1 tbsp (15 mL) white vinegar

Topping

4 apples (2 lbs) cut into thick slices
½ cup (125 mL) pure maple syrup
½ cup (125 mL) golden brown sugar
½ tsp (2 mL) cinnamon (optional)
1 egg, beaten
3 tbsp (45 mL) sugar

How to make the crust

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

Add shortening and cut in with pastry blender or 2 knives until crumbly.

In a small bowl, beat egg, water and vinegar together.

Pour the liquid mixture into the flour mixture.

Stir with a fork only to moisten dry ingredients.

On plastic wrap, flatten dough into an 8-inch (20 cm) disk.

Wrap dough and refrigerate for 15 minutes.

Preheat oven to 425ºF (220ºC).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Topping Instructions

In a large bowl, combine apples, maple syrup and cinnamon.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out cooled dough into a 16-inch (40 cm) circle.

Place dough on prepared baking sheet.

In the center of the dough, stack the apples into a 9-inch (23 cm) circle.

Fold dough over apples, leaving an opening in the middle.

Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Reduce heat to 375ºF (190ºC) and continue baking for 40 to 50 minutes, or until crust is golden and apples are tender.

Top with maple syrup and serve warm or at room temperature, as desired.

My impression of Battle Brothers

Battle Brothers is a very good little independent game that puts you in the shoes of a captain of a mercenary company in an era that resembles our Middle Ages. The graphics are certainly sketchy but very convincing, much more than you might think.

This is a turn-based tactical and strategic type of game.

Your goal is not to defeat a country but to rent your mercenary companies to the highest bidder or even earn some money with trade.

Each game is unique in itself and don't worry you will die and you will still get joy to found another company.

It's a very addictive game that I highly recommend to lovers of turn-based tactical games.

Romancing SaGa 2 on Nintendo Switch

Romancing SaGa 2 is essentially a "remake" with graphics strongly reminiscent of the basic style seen in the early Final Fantasy games on the NES and Super NES. However, if you can overlook this detail, the game offers a captivating experience.

Instead of embodying a single hero, you take on the role of successive generations of emperors and companions, facing supposed heroes who seem more like antagonists.

What distinguishes this game, even given its original release date, is the real impact of our choices on the destiny of the country and the empire.

I highly recommend this game, although I wouldn't suggest spending $70 to acquire it. Nevertheless, it's a remarkable title with a captivating story.
